Direct from Broadway, Grease rocked opening night as Discover the OC staff was in attendance. From a front and center seat, we watched Vince Fontaine lead from the WAXX radio station in a nostalgic tour back in time to 1959. Poodle skirts, drive-ins, and hot rods electrified the stage as the cast did a fantastic job leveraging audience participation.

There’s something to be said about live performances. The energy levels are high and the music is engaging. Opening night always tends to be exceptionally special. We found the cast full of enthusiasm and their tone on point. The plot remains focused on the typical issues of high school teenagers in the 50’s. Ryder High came alive on stage as making out, breaking up and making up played out with hoods, nerds, jocks, jerks, sluts and snobs. Let’s not forget the real American Idol Taylor Hicks who not only personified the Teen Angel role, but did a meet and greet in the lobby after the performance. Those who come to see “Grease” ready to sing, dance and “rock and roll” will have a great time. Bring the family and the kids…you’ll love it!

While one in nine shared patients is directly transferred from one hospital to another, most patients are discharged before they’re readmitted to another facility, the report says. After examining nearly 240,000 admissions at 31 acute care Orange County hospitals in 2005, researchers found that 22% of patients discharged from acute care facilities were readmitted somewhere else within a year. “If we better understand the ‘traffic patterns’ of patients and the interlinking of hospitals, we’ve added an important component to preventing the spread of disease,” lead researcher Susan S. Huang, MD, MPH, assistant professor and hospital epidemiologist at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, said in a press release. She added that “being aware of the extent of patient sharing could give us a better idea of where to intervene first.”

Extensive renovations have been made and more to come. A complete re-working of the upstairs balcony comes complete with new booths, bar and more. All bathrooms have been completely redone as has the main bar. All new booths and tables downstairs as well as lots of new paint. The stage remains the same, although there are lots of new lights and new PA system. Looks like its going to be THE place in Orange County for live music once again, and we couldn’t be happier.

Lopez writes “If Gray had his way, no one under 21 could buy drugs. But anyone older than that could legally buy marijuana — which, he says, causes nowhere near the amount of death and disease as alcohol. The state would need to see how that works, he said, before moving on to legalizing the sale of harder drugs. Sure, he says, legalization might lead to more toking at first, but he believes drug use would wane when it’s no longer forbidden and the novelty wears off.”
