Grease in The OC
Grease was the word last week as the“#1 musical of 2007, according to Time Magazine, started it’s run at the Segerstrom Hall in Costa Mesa. Direct from Broadway, Grease rocked opening night as Discover the OC staff was in attendance. From a front and center seat, we watched Vince Fontaine lead from the WAXX radio station in a nostalgic tour back in time to 1959. Poodle skirts, drive-ins, and hot rods electrified the stage as the cast did a fantastic job leveraging audience participation.
There’s something to be said about live performances. The energy levels are high and the music is engaging. Opening night always tends to be exceptionally special. We found the cast full of enthusiasm and their tone on point. The plot remains focused on the typical issues of high school teenagers in the 50’s. Ryder High came alive on stage as making out, breaking up and making up played out with hoods, nerds, jocks, jerks, sluts and snobs. Let’s not forget the real American Idol Taylor Hicks who not only personified the Teen Angel role, but did a meet and greet in the lobby after the performance. Those who come to see “Grease” ready to sing, dance and “rock and roll” will have a great time. Bring the family and the kids…you’ll love it!
